CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A federal prosecutor is challenging a judge's decision to release Ricardo Paez-Quinones, a twice-deported Mexican immigrant accused of carrying 18,000 rounds of high-caliber ammunition when he was stopped for speeding near Rawlins in March. The prosecutor claimed Paez-Quinones admitted he planned to send the ammunition to Mexico — prompting concerns over drug and gun trafficking as he awaits his Cheyenne court appearance on May 27. - ➤ Farmers in southeastern and central Wyoming have struggled with a severe drought that makes it hard to raise cattle and grow hay as they wait for rain. The USDA will offer emergency loans to several counties but some farmers choose to stick with their known lenders for now. Cowboy State Daily

- ➤ Deputy Tyler Christen of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office responded to an email from a St. Louis father on March 23 about his son’s treasured stuffed animal—Dog—that blew away from a rest stop near Creston Junction. The officer located Dog after a ground search and notified the family that it was safe. Cowboy State Daily
- ➤ Wyoming elected officials declined to join the federal summer nutrition program for two years, leaving income-qualified children without extra meals during summer breaks. Officials may reconsider the program as schools recalibrate nutrition plans for the upcoming season. Laramie Boomerang
- ➤ The Wyoming Department of Transportation will offer 21 specialty license plates in 2025 featuring a new University of Wyoming plate, a rodeo-themed plate and a search-and-rescue plate—each must sell at least 1,000 units during its eight-year issuance cycle or be canceled. Cowboy State Daily

- ➤ Local cat owners must stop using Savage Cat Food Large Chicken Boxes 84 ounces and Small Chicken Boxes 21 ounces after the FDA recalled them because of possible bird flu contamination; the recalled food, with a best used by date of November 15th, 2026, was sold in Laramie as well as Nebraska and Colorado and can be returned for a refund.
