COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Laramie oppose a plan by Albany County School District 1 to replace historic Deti Stadium and its track with an operations facility near 15th Street. An online petition with more than 1,300 signatures was recorded Thursday morning.  Laramie Boomerang
  • Volunteers are needed at the Laramie Animal Welfare Society's new building flooring project (April 4 prep work and April 8-11 flooring) where tasks include cleaning, sanding, and painting to ready the space for animals. Sign up online if your schedule is flexible.  County 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brigadier General Shane Reeves, a Sweetwater County native and Army veteran, accepted the UW Board of Trustees contract Thursday and will assume office in July—he said he looks forward to strengthening the university and deepening community ties.  County 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Conservative activist Steve Friess, son of late Foster Friess, is running for Wyoming’s only U.S. House seat as the primary nears on Aug. 18. He led local education and trade programs in Teton County and aims to boost energy jobs + streamline interactions through a revived Bureau of Mines if elected.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Last week, the Laramie County Planning Commission recommended a permit for expanding the Horse Creek Rock Quarry near Cheyenne. Operators (they say the expansion could boost output) plan further work in the coming months.  Laramie Boomerang
