ECONOMY NEWS

  • In 2024, Wyoming exported $2,067.8 million and imported $1,315.1 million in goods, with Canada supplying $401.2 million in exports and $717.4 million in imports—Soda Ash was the largest export at $1,337.3 million, or 64.7% of the state’s total.  Laramie Live
  • Wyoming's average gas price fell by 2.2 cents this week to $3.08 per gallon, with prices ranging from $2.83 to $4.19 per gallon from 494 stations. The price is 1.7 cents lower than last month + 18.9 cents lower than last year while the national average remains at $3.10 per gallon.  Laramie Live

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Public visitors to the Pole Mountain unit of Medicine Bow National Forest face a cheatgrass spray that begins today and continues until May 14, weather permitting, as helicopters apply the herbicide Rejuvra on 1,693 acres south of the Interstate 80 summit. Officials say road closures are in place to limit public exposure during active helicopter operations—visitors should follow the posted signage and avoid treatment areas.  County 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Energy Authority is preparing a first-of-its-kind study to assess Wyoming’s coal reserves in the Powder River and Green River Basins, understand market demand, address regulatory issues, and examine export potential; bid proposals closed last week + they expect to award the contract by May 1 with work possibly starting May 9. The study will build on previous research and offer policymakers recommendations for needed reforms.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Crews with WYDOT and Knife River will close US Highway 287/Third Street at Grand Avenue on Thursday, weather permitting, to upgrade the intersection with new concrete, ADA curb extensions and colored crosswalks plus improved audible pedestrian signals. During the closure, traffic will detour to 4th Street via Ivinson and Garfield until early July while pedestrian access remains available for local businesses.  County 5
