Good morning, Laramie. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 11th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Home On The Range Animal Haven south of Laramie, Bambi is a disabled 250-pound Nubian goat whose back injury now makes his right hind leg hyper-flex—making it hard for him to stand and walk—and his caretaker is asking local experts to design a custom leg brace.  Cowboy State Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • Laramie locals say Bud’s Bar—an 80-year-old dive bar on the west side that opened in 1942—may have inspired Moe’s Tavern from The Simpsons because key design features like its front door and windows closely match the cartoon bar; owner Shelley Peterson, who bought the bar in 2019, and longtime regulars keep the blue-collar charm alive.  Cowboy State Daily
  • One of Wyoming’s oldest bridges sits abandoned on a 10,000-acre private ranch in Albany County, where the 163-foot McGill Bridge built in 1900 once served as a key crossing on the Old Fetterman-Laramie Road across the Laramie River (its early role on transcontinental routes remains unclear).  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Legislative leaders recently changed the rules for interim committees so that most now meet only four days between sessions while revenue and corporate committees are exempt. Senate Majority Chairman Tara Nethercott and Rep Mike Yin backed the changes, which will save the state $152,500, though some lawmakers questioned if the new schedule would allow enough time to complete assignments.  Cowboy State Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Saturday, Travis Steele ate meat that smelled, felt, and tasted off—he became ill with vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever before his wife Emily later experienced similar symptoms after likely contracting the virus. Laramie-based Dr. Tracey Haas said the case shows that foodborne illnesses such as norovirus can spread quickly when proper handwashing is not done.  Cowboy State Daily
