COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Freedom Has a Birthday is adding an Arts & Crafts Village to its annual Fourth of July celebration at Washington Park — the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers local makers 20 vendor booths (80% of which are filled) with registration closing June 26th.  County 5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Metro Coffee Company announced it will open a new shop on Ivinson Avenue in downtown Laramie across from Buckhorn Bar. Owner Sean Peverley, a third-generation cowboy, said his family will run the store with a grand opening planned in three to four months—bringing the Metro signature experience to the community—while design and construction planning continue.  Laramie Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the University of Wyoming is preparing instructors to follow a new law that stops teaching ideas that favor one group over another—Interim Provost Scott Turpen said current teaching practices remain unchanged. The school will work over the summer to set up a formal process for handling any complaints.  County 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rick Mickelsen wrote a guest column warning that an amendment approved on May 6 put 500,000 acres in Utah and Nevada on the auction block and set a dangerous precedent for public lands. He urged Wyomingites to join the new Public Lands Caucus and Keep It Public Wyoming coalition — warning that such actions could soon jeopardize access and strain the state’s land management resources.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Wyoming is drawing interest as plans for new nuclear power investments and low-carbon fossil fuel projects gain support from a presidential administration—federal regulations on coal will be overhauled to help modernize energy production. Officials say the new measures will boost the energy sector and drive future economic growth.  Laramie Boomerang
  • Senate Chair Cynthia Lummis introduced the Forest Protection and Wildland Firefighter Safety Act to let firefighting agencies use aerial fire retardants without NPDES permits, and senators from Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana backed the bill—legislators say the measure is vital to protect communities and property from wildfire damage.  Laramie Live
