EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leadership Wyoming turned 25 as it announced 40 new students for its 2026 Core Program—students from fields like mining and banking are joining from across the state. The program gives hands-on tours, coaching, and networking—now boosting its alumni to over 1,000 graduates.  Cowboy State Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department removed over 500,000 zebra mussels from a boat lift brought in by a Casper dock owner to prevent the invasive species from contaminating Alcova Reservoir — aquatic inspectors scalded and scraped every inch of the equipment to ensure complete decontamination. The department covers all decontamination costs using funds from AIS decals and licenses to protect local waters.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Former Interior official Rob Wallace said grizzly bears in the Lower 48 may be delisted if Brian Nesvik becomes head of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service—he faces a Senate vote in the coming weeks—while state and local delegates push for state management of the bears.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A legislative committee approved a draft motion on Tuesday to target sexually explicit materials in children’s sections of public and school libraries—after heated testimony from educators, library staff, and concerned parents—and will research the proposal further before the February 9 legislative session.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The Laramie Parks and Recreation Department will hire seasonal workers for Summer 2025 — their search aims to fill several community roles. Openings include Recreation Center staff, Adventure Kids coaches, softball umpires, and cemetery maintenance workers — each position remains open until filled.  City of Laramie
  • On Monday night, Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the Senate ended debate on the GENIUS Act—a bill to regulate stablecoins—with a 66—32 vote that puts the measure on track for a final vote needing 51 senators. U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, who co-sponsored and helped write the bill, said the action advances efforts to set a framework for digital assets.  Cowboy State Daily
  • A legislative committee in Torrington on May 19 voted 8 to 6 to adopt a draft resolution that requires Wyoming Supreme Court justice nominees to be confirmed by the Senate before appointment—after a first 7 to 7 vote rejected a broader constitutional change.
