ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Senate unanimously passed the No Tax on Tips bill, which exempts the first $25,000 in tips for workers earning under $160,000, and the bill now moves to the House. Wyoming service workers remain cautious but optimistic as they await full details+ some worry that customer tips may fall.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate unanimously passed the No Tax on Tips Act today — the bill needs House and presidential approval — which would let blue-collar workers deduct up to $25,000 from taxable income on cash tips if they earn up to $160,000. Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis praised the measure as a victory that will help workers keep more of their earnings.  Laramie Live
  • Senator John Barrasso introduced a bill to remove restrictions on coal, oil, gas and nuclear projects at international financial institutions and to cut US funding to the World Bank by 50% until those policies change—co-sponsors include Senators Cynthia Lummis, Ted Cruz, Pete Ricketts, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee and Bill Hagerty in a push to address global energy poverty.  Laramie Live
  • Campbell, Johnson and Sheridan counties are applying for FEMA grant funding to map underground coal seam fires that can ignite wildfires in northeastern Wyoming. A stakeholder meeting is scheduled today at 5:30 p.m. at the Campbell County Courthouse (where elected officials and local residents will learn about the mapping project).  Cowboy State Daily
  • The University of Wyoming’s Army ROTC Cowboy Battalion commissioned seven cadets as Army second lieutenants on Saturday evening—marking the event as a milestone for the unit.  Laramie Boomerang
