  • Wyoming Humanities—facing a DOGE-driven funding freeze—has cut its staff from six to two after it lost a federal grant and two-thirds of its funding. The move risks narrowing its efforts to share Wyoming stories and cultures.  Laramie Boomerang

  • The section of Wyoming 130 through the Snowy Range reopened for summer travel after crews cleared heavy snowdrifts starting mid-May—WYDOT warned that travelers should drive slowly as spring storms may still cause hazardous conditions overnight.  Laramie Live
  • The City of Laramie will hold the second public meeting for the 3rd Street Beautification Project on May 29 at the Laramie Historic Train Depot, with drop-in sessions from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.—residents will review early concept designs shaped by feedback from the first meeting.  County 5
  • Wyoming hunters and target shooters may soon buy firearm suppressors over-the-counter after the U.S. House passed a bill on Wednesday that would remove them from the restrictive 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA). The bill now heads to the Senate, and if approved, buyers will complete only a quick background check like when they buy other firearms.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Crews from Laramie, Saratoga, Casper and Cheyenne cleared up to 15 feet of snow on a 12-mile stretch of Highway 130 through the Snowy Range, and the highway officially reopened for summer travel with a target finish on Memorial Day Weekend. Drivers are warned that spring snowstorms may still create hazards on high mountain passes — conditions could be impassable overnight.  County 5
  • An Elk Mountain ranch owner is preparing an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to review his corner crossing case, according to new filings. He hopes the high court will set a legal precedent for similar cases in Wyoming.  Laramie Boomerang
  • Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis introduced the Autonomous Vehicle Advancement Act to set clear rules for self-driving vehicles and require federal agencies to follow a 2016 report’s recommendations—she said the act will task the Transportation Secretary with removing rules that slow progress while paving the way for more autonomous vehicles on the roads.  Laramie Live
  • Longtime Wyoming Tourism Director Diane Shober announced via email that she will retire at the end of 2025 after 22 years in the role and will continue working in Cheyenne for eight more months. Gov. Mark Gordon and tourism leaders praised her energetic approach and credited her leadership with boosting the state’s tourism economy—leaving high expectations for her successor.  Cowboy State Daily
