- ➤ Laramie will celebrate Independence Day on July 4th with Freedom Has a Birthday at Washington Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—offering live music, carnival activities, arts and crafts booths, fire engine hose-downs, free ice cream, and playgrounds. Fire in the Sky, presented by WyoTech, will launch over 300 aerial shells at 9 p.m. from Harney and 22nd Street, and the City advises visitors to follow parking guidelines. County 5

- ➤ Natrona County officers stopped a speeding car on I-25 near milepost 185 when a K9 alerted them to drugs, leading to the arrest of John Fowler—who was later sentenced to 151 months in federal prison after officers recovered over 400 grams of meth and 48 grams of cocaine. Laramie Live

- ➤ Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder plans to distribute at least $6.44 million under the expanded Steamboat Legacy Scholarship Act—3,680 of 3,889 applications are approved and funds will be paid in four installments starting July 1. A lawsuit by the Wyoming Education Association and nine parents challenges the payouts, and a June 27 preliminary injunction hearing in Cheyenne will decide if the program may go forward—Degenfelder said she will follow the court’s order. - ➤ On June 17th, Albany County Emergency Management said its Public Warning System worked as expected after a tornado warning from the National Weather Service in Cheyenne did not trigger sirens because the storm was reported eight miles east of Laramie—sirens in the city activate only within a 3 to 5-mile radius. Reviews of radar, images and reports showed the tornado touched down near Medicine Bow National Forest, caused tree damage and was on the ground for about five minutes. Laramie Live

- ➤ Josie Mousel of the University of Wyoming had an almost perfect goat tying run in 5.7 seconds at the College National Finals Rodeo Wednesday night — her fastest time so far in the contest.
