EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wyoming leaders announced on Thursday that they will appeal a judge’s order blocking the school-choice program that would give families up to $7,000 for private school or homeschooling from a $50 million fund. Andy Biggs sent a letter on Wednesday to Acting U.S. Attorney Stephanie Sprecher asking for all records related to the prosecution of ultrarunner Michelino Sunseri, who is charged with a misdemeanor for cutting a switchback at Grand Teton last fall. The lawmakers question why prosecutors rejected plea deals offering 1,000 hours of community service — and they want similar case records by July 30.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Laramie County Detention Center is opening Wyoming’s first in-house mental health unit today after two years of planning and spending $700,000 to improve inmate care. • Federal lawmakers must vote by 11:59 p.m. today on a bill that would cut $1.1 billion in federal funds from public media which supports Wyoming PBS.
