Historian Jim Hand said that Murphy’s Law began at the Ames Monument when Judge William 'Billy' Murphy filed a homestead claim on government land in 1885 — a move that embarrassed the Union Pacific and led locals to coin the adage.

University of Wyoming President Ed Seidel told the board he will step down when his contract ends on June 30th, 2026—after five years in office—and the board will soon begin a search for his replacement.
