  • Historian Jim Hand said that Murphy’s Law began at the Ames Monument when Judge William 'Billy' Murphy filed a homestead claim on government land in 1885 — a move that embarrassed the Union Pacific and led locals to coin the adage.   • University of Wyoming President Ed Seidel told the board he will step down when his contract ends on June 30th, 2026—after five years in office—and the board will soon begin a search for his replacement.
