ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to a train derailment in Albany County near Union Pacific Mile Marker 590.5 along U.S. Highway 30 on Wednesday afternoon when 20 cars went off the tracks and hundreds of packages were affected.  Laramie Boomerang

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Employees at Mountain Cement Company in south Laramie voted Wednesday late afternoon to unionize the plant—marking the company’s first successful union vote—and the company will begin bargaining with union representatives soon.  Laramie Boomerang

  • UW’s American Heritage Center has opened the 'Armed in the Wilderness' exhibition — it showcases books on outdoor recreation, conservation, and the people who built this literary genre.  Laramie Boomerang

  • The Wyoming Wool Initiative and the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources are accepting applications for the 2025-26 Lamb‑a‑Year program— a chance for local wool producers to join a longstanding initiative.  Laramie Boomerang

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Effective immediately, Stage 1 fire restrictions now cover Medicine Bow National Forest and Thunder Basin National Grassland to reduce wildfire risks—campfires are allowed only in USDA-approved fire pits or gas devices with on/off switches. Violators may face fines or jail time if they start fires outside these allowed methods.  County 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A judge ruled on August 1 that Wyoming and 10 other states may continue with a lawsuit accusing Blackrock, State Street and Vanguard of using their stock to force coal companies to cut production and raise energy costs. The suit claims the firms pursued a climate plan that reduced coal supply—boosting profits while raising bills.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The Laramie City Council voted Tuesday evening not to repeal the surface water drainage ordinance — preserving Chapter 13.80 from Original Ordinance 1859 — and paused fees to keep the current framework in place.  Laramie Boomerang
