  • Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers used snow shovels to slow a grass fire along U.S. Highway 287 south of Laramie on Thursday — delaying the blaze until fire crews arrived.  Laramie Boomerang

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A judge denied the state's motion to dismiss the lawsuit challenging the controversial universal school voucher program — a decision that marks a setback for education policy in Wyoming.  Laramie Boomerang

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A study by the University of Wyoming shows that most people, especially those in the Mountain West, want changes in how wildfires are managed—calling for more fire prevention. Researchers say the findings could shape future state efforts to lower wildfire risks.  Laramie Boomerang

  • The Laramie Valley Jackalopes program is hosting the Wyoming K–5 Elementary School Cross Country Championships on October 4 at Scout Park in Laramie as part of its fall series. The series includes free races on September 10 at LaPrele Park and September 24 at LaBonte Park—registration for the championship costs $10 online or $15 in-person and top finishers will earn ribbons and trophies.  County 5
  • The athletics department sold roughly 7,000 tickets after Thursday's announcement for the Nov. 22 game between the Cowboys and Nevada. Supplemental single-game tickets were released at 10 a.m. on Sept. 5 (and additional season ticket options will be available on Sept. 8).  Laramie Live
