GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mark Gordon said that a 25% property tax cut passed last session will cause budget shortages for schools and local services this coming session. County officials warned that less money from property taxes may force cuts in key services—such as emergency management and libraries—in Wyoming.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Gov. Mark Gordon said he still backs wind energy while understanding local worry after Laramie County rejected the Laramie Range Wind Project—a plan for 170 turbines near Cheyenne. Spanish firm Repsol was disappointed by the vote and said it would seek new options as residents voiced concerns about changes to their land and wildlife.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The city is asking local residents to volunteer for open seats on boards and commissions—details are provided on a posted flyer.  County 5
  • The City Council will hold an open house meeting on September 30 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Laramie Recreation Center at 920 Boulder Dr+ attendees may join in person or via Zoom for the question and answer session.  County 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • New provisional CDC data showed that newborn syphilis cases in the US reached nearly 4,000 in 2024 (a 2% rise from 2023 and a 700% increase since 2015). Wyoming health officials reported a 54% increase in syphilis cases since 2018 and urged sexually active people to get tested to protect pregnant women and prevent serious complications.  Laramie Live
