ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On September 24, fire restrictions on National Forest System lands managed by Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland were lifted due to increased fuel moisture and favorable weather forecasts—drought conditions remain so visitors should use campfire safety measures. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Albany County plans to create a task force to counter terrorism and is applying for $175,000 from the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security to address gaps in training, equipment and planning. Officials say there is no current threat but that preparing now is essential to protect critical infrastructure—grant decisions are pending. Cowboy State Daily
- ➤ The University of Wyoming filed a case in Albany County District Court to stop a new stormwater tax that the City of Laramie set in December without a public vote. The suit says the tax will cost UW over $400,000 each year and may raise bills for local businesses — officials await a court decision. County 5
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Tonight the Laramie Plainsmen will travel to Gillette to face the Campbell County Camels at Camel Stadium — the team hopes to break a four-game losing streak in the series. The Plainsmen, 2-2 after a win over Rock Springs, will build on recent success while the unbeaten Camels are ranked third — KOWB radio will air the game starting at 5 p.m. Laramie Live
