EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dozens of educators, librarians and community members met with the Albany County School District 1 Board of Trustees on Wednesday to review House Bill 26LSO-0080 and said the draft library bill was unworkable as written. The meeting focused on details that could affect how the bill is revised in the future.  Laramie Boomerang
  • Velma Linford Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School — an honor given for strong academic achievement. ACSD announced the award to recognize the school's commitment to excellence.  County 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Christine Adams was named Executive Director of the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust—bringing extensive conservation experience from Denver—and will lead efforts to safeguard Wyoming's working lands and rural heritage.  Laramie Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The State Board of Land Commissioners approved two 50-year lease extensions for Carbon County wind farms in a 3—2 vote as Secretary of State Chuck Gray opposed wind power while State Treasurer Curt Meier supported it to boost state revenue. The board also approved $4 million for increased sewer capacity in Lincoln County to meet current needs and future demands from a planned nuclear reactor—expected to bring hundreds of new residents.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak and 25 deputies were sworn in by ICE to enforce immigration law but emphasized that public safety remains the priority—deputies will only inquire about immigration status during lawful stops. The sheriff stated that efforts will focus on curbing human trafficking, drug smuggling, and unlicensed, undocumented truckers.  Laramie Live
